Create a line item

After you have created an order, you can create a Line Item. Line items are the heart of your ad campaign, and group one or more Ads together. Line items also dictate targeting and inventory criteria, which directly determines the eligibility of your line item to serve.
To create a line item, begin by navigating to a previously created Order and select the Line items navigation tab near the top of the page. Then, click the Create Line Item button at the bottom right of the page.
Fill in the name and click Save.
Once you have created the line item, you can modify any field on the new screen (in more detail below), or switch to a list of the line item's associated ads by selecting the Ads tab near the top of the screen.
As you make changes on the screen, you will notice the line item status indicator in the bottom left change to reflect what is needed to make your line item active. By selecting dates and inventory criteria below, you can make your line item ready to go -- all that's left is an ad!
The name of the line item.
A toggle switch indicating if the line item is currently eligible to serve. Note that if the line item is complete when this is toggled on, the line item will change to Paused.
A free-form text field to input any additional information you may want to store with the line item.
Use the dates and priority fields to indicate both when the line item should serve, and how important it is.
Use the Priority slider to select how important this line item is. When all other factors are equal, priority will be used to determine a winning line item. If there are multiple equal priority line items, they will be rotated randomly.
Use Priority with care. When an ad is requested, the eligible line items with the highest priority will be used exclusively. In general, a priority other than 3
should be used sparingly -- typically only to provide ads to fill in what would otherwise be blanks, or to provide a limited override of all ad positions for a set duration. An eligible line item with a lower priority will never serve when one with a higher priority exists.
We recommend structuring your ad priority something like this:
House or Placeholder
Network/Other Unsold
Standard/Sold
Priority
Exclusive
There are two modes available for setting the line item date criteria: By Days, and By Range. You can switch between these modes using the Dates select box, but note that your previous selections (if any) will be cleared when changing the Dates mode.
With By Days selected, each date you select in the calendar will be shown in the list to the right. Your line item will be considered active when the date sent with the ad request matches one of these days.
With By Range selected, you may click twice in the calendar to select a range of dates: first the starting point, then the ending point. Your line item will be considered active when the date sent with the ad request falls between these two dates (inclusive.)
An eligible line item's status will change based on the current date. For example, when the last date for the line item is in the past, it will show as Finished. Likewise, when the first date is in the future it will show Scheduled, and when between the first and last date it will be Running.
This does not directly indicate whether or not the line item will continue to receive impression and click data, however. Because the date sent with the ad request is set within the email, line items can continue to receive impressions and clicks long after their campaign has completed.
When Paused, Incomplete, or Deleted, it will not be served and will not gather impression or click data.
Use the inventory fields to select one or more Ad Units, Deployments, or Publishers that the line item should be considered eligible for.
If you would like the line item to be eligible for only specific ad units, enter them here.
If you would like the line item to be eligible for any ad unit within a deployment(s), enter them here.
If you would like the line item to be eligible for any ad unit of any deployment of a publisher(s), enter them here.
You must select at least one ad unit, deployment, or publisher for your line item to be eligible to serve.
These fields are combinatorial -- if you select one ad unit from Deployment A and then select Deployment B (containing two different ad units) the line item will be eligible for delivery in all three ad units.
If you would like to serve your line item in only one ad unit, be sure that no higher level selections are made (such as deployments or publishers.)
