Promotion

Used to direct users away from your site onto third-party websites (typically used for promoting paid content).

What makes promotions unique, is their ability to link off-site to a separate URL. Promotions are the only piece of content that have the Link Text / Link URL fields:

Unlike the field, the Link URL field will allow you to include a full website domain, which will link the user off-site.

The Link URL must include http://www or https://www

If a Promotion is scheduled to the website and has a Link URL, the content will always redirect to what's put in the Link URL field. Therefore, if the content appears as a thumbnail on the site, or scheduled to the hero block of the home page, once a user clicks on the content title (or image) they will be taken to the third-party URL, and not the landing page alias that you'll see in the URI Preview from Base.

The Link Text is typically only used in newsletters, and is what will appear visually, while the Link URL field is where the user will be taken when they click on the Link Text. The Link Text is not a require field - if one is not specified, it will simply display what's in the Link URL field.
