In the upper-right corner of the page you'll see the option to create a New piece of content. Selecting that will provide you a list of different content types you'll be able to create. (This list may vary depending on your site.)
For this example we'll choose Article:
Each type of content will have they're own specific fields that are required, but these fields are globally required before you're able to save the new content: Name, Primary Site, and Primary Section
If you try to Create a piece of content before filling out those fields, you'll get a warning in the upper-right telling you what you need to fill out. It'll look something like this:
The Primary Site/Primary Section SEO field is what's displayed on the content when it appears as a thumbnail across the website. This may also affect ad targeting on the content landing page if there are section-specific ads. (Not always the case)
Setting the Primary Section will NOT make the content appear on the website. You must have an active website schedule in order for content to appear. More on scheduling can be found here.
By default, the SEO Title will inherit the name of the content, but this can be modifiable if you'd like something different (rare). For more information on what SEO Titles are and how they're used, click here.
The URI preview is the file path that the content can be accessed from. Clicking on that link in Base will bring you to the live page on the website. If the content is Deleted, Expired, or in Draft status, clicking on that link will bring you to a 404 page. To preview the content before it's Published, click on the Preview button in the left side bar.
If you'd like a Custom Alias, simply check the box and enter the alias in the input field to the left. Make sure you do not put a leading slash, or any domain info/www/http/etc in this field.
If you'd like the content to be directed off-site (such as paid/sponsored items that you'd like featured in a newsletter), the piece of content must be created as a "Promotion" content type in Base. More on that can be found here.
If you're unsure whether or not your custom alias is correct, click on the link in the URI Preview to the left, which will update automatically upon changing the custom alias.
On the front-end website, there is usually a right-rail on content landing pages. This right-rail typically includes an advertisement, followed by a list of related content like so:
For control over which items will populate in that area, there is a "Related Content" field in Base within the "Other" section at the bottom of the page:
If you start typing in the name of the content you'd like to relate, a list of available options should populate. You can add multiple pieces of related content, although the website will typically only display a maximum of Five items at one time (this number may vary from site to site).
You'll notice on the left-hand side of content, there's a list of options: Dates, Taxonomy, Media, Access Control and Sharing.
Taxonomy is a method of labeling content with one or more terms so that content can be found and extracted dynamically for display on a page. More on that can be found here.
Media is a way to upload images to pieces of content. More on that can be found here.
Access Control allows you to restrict the user from viewing content until they meet certain requirements, such as registering for the website, or filling out a form.
Sharing provides a way to extract information about the piece of content, such as exporting data, sharing to Hootlet, and downloading informational reports.
