Why are my images uploading sideways?

When you take pictures with your cell phone/tablet or digital camera, there is an invisible "orientation" tag that's stored in the jpg files. This flag describes how many degrees the camera was rotated when the picture was taken.

In newer versions of Windows (8 & 10), Microsoft has built in a "feature" that auto-rotates images on the fly when viewing them on your PC, instead of overwriting the original file with the rotated image. So, if that orientation tag is "Rotate 90 degrees clockwise", your computer will know to rotate it when it's being viewed, even though it's not actually being rotated. It just created that "illusion" of rotation by doing it on the fly.

Unfortunately, that means that when you try to upload the image into Base, it's going to display the original, un-rotated image. If this happens, try to rotate the image by using another editor - such as Photoshop or Paint - before uploading them to Base.
